SUMMER SOLSTICE
June felt like it was going by quickly. Weather had been on the cooler side and I wasn’t finding enough time to get out. Something I never want to do is let work consume my life so I was itching to get out and walk by the falls. Then I remembered that June 21 would be the official start of summer and I decided that would be my day. The city was calling so I had to see what was going on, and it did not disappoint. The Falls was alive with people, nature and good vibes! I had so much fun on this photowalk

HAMILTON ART CRAWL
I haven’t been to Art Crawl in Hamilton for years, but when I was asked to go I couldn’t turn down the opportunity. Rain and I met up with Claire to find a spot to setup their crochet booth. I camped in the spot for a bit, watching skateboarders who had a taped off spot down the block and watching people filter through the streets. We got there at a good time, the sun was shining but it was surprisingly chilly for a June evening. Once we were settled in, I took a walk down James St to take in the full event and came up with some really good compositions and a lot of portraits

POCKETS OF LIGHT
For this session I walked around the Hill looking for sun shining between and reflecting off of buildings and then I waited for someone to step in to it. Along the way I met a lady and her dog Maple, who insisted i give Maple treats to get a good angle. It was hard to compete with the noises and smells of the Hill. To cap off the walk I practiced some portraits with Rain

LONG EXPOSURE ON THE HILL
I got creative with the lights on the Hill and tried some long exposure. Colour grading these shots to be more green and orange helped create an abstract style photo that has been inspiring me lately. Light streaks, some blur, bold colours and a simple palette are elements I want to explore more to achieve the look I want, and this was a great session to experiment. At the end of the gallery are some shots of Rain to practice some street portrait photography

PHOTOWALK 4
All of my work, shooting and walking has finally shown a breakthrough with this session. This photo with the man and his child was well worth the couple of hours walking around the Falls that day and the numerous hours I have been putting in for summers prior. Seeing this shot was a surreal moment of relief, gratitude and joy. Overall, I was able to get some really great photos this day and it really signaled to me that I was well on my path and fulfilling my vision

PHOTOWALK 3
Part of my photography journey is breaking out of my shell. I have to find ways to get closer to people, to not be shy when I bring my camera out, and I thought that if I shot at night I could blend in better to do these things. Night photos are definitely a thing, but as a beginner and longing for day time golden hour shots with lots of people wandering around, these photos didn’t hit as expected. But in doing it this way I realized that I was avoiding and shying away from my goals so I snapped portraits of Rain to not feel totally empty handed

PORTRAITS WITH JESSICA
Street photography is a candid practice where street portraiture is a directed practice. Both use the streets and natural light to form compositions. Street portraits can be harder to create sometimes. I have Rain who is so easy to take pictures of but I need to experience other energies if I want to reach new growth. So this session I met up with Jessica in Hamilton for some badass portraits with her car
